We currently have openings for the following positions:

Carpenter / Handyman

Daily Work Flow

  • Jobsite setup/clean up
  • Throughout the day, if the foreman, carpenters or sub-contractors run out or need additional materials/supplies, the carpenter’s apprentice will be responsible for obtaining the list of the items and pickup from the appropriate suppliers.
  • Assist with inventory control and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • At all times the carpenter’s apprentice must follow the directions of the Foreman/Project Manager
  • Pursue job advancement by learning trade as quickly as possible and becoming a responsible employee.

*NOTE: It is the employee’s responsibility to ALWAYS WRITE DOWN specific instructions and/or details pertaining to each assigned task. If unsure of any instructions or direction given, the employee must confirm information with the foreman and/or project manager. (Field personnel will be issued clip boards/stationary from PCS)

Work Performed

1. Attendance & Time Management

  • Report at work at the assigned time.
  • Each morning requires setting up equipment; therefore if one person is late it affects the performance of the entire group.

Employee must inform the Foreman and/or the Project Manger as soon as possible if:

  • He is running late
  • Needs to call out sick
  • Any other event or reason he may be late/absent

IT IS THE EMPLOYEE’S RESPONSIBILITY TO MANAGE HIS/HER DAILY TIME AND TO PROVIDE ALL REQUESTED DOCUMENTATION FOR EACH HOUR WORKED

  • Assist the Foreman and Carpenter by remembering items needed from the day before to save loading time in the morning
  • A truck should not sit with a full load overnight, as it will damage the springs and suspension

*NOTE: If unsure of the trucks weight capacity, seek confirmation from the Foreman or Project Manager for proper weight loading of the truck especially if loading for the next day.

2. Start of the Day
Each morning check with the Foreman or Project Manager as to which materials are required from the shop for that day’s work and load those materials onto truck.

Before the truck leaves the shop:

  • Double check that all items are safely secured so there is no damage during transit
  • Make sure all materials are secured to the truck, with special attention to securing any flammable items(if any)
  • Double check all ladder planks making sure they are properly secured. Ladders cannot hang over the truck or out the truck more than four feet without a red flag
  • Follow up with the Foreman or Project Manager if a problem is identified and/or if there are any questions or uncertainty

3. Jobsite Maintenance

If employee is at a PCS jobsite and there are no PCS workers/management present, employee must let property owner know he is there and ask the customer if he could assist or answer questions.

Unloading & Placement of Material and Equipment:

  • Unload materials & equipment from truck and place items close to the working area
  • Keep construction paths clear and do not block the customer’s access to the house or garage
  • Do not allow materials to be stockpiled on a customer’s lawn where they may cause browning
  • If uncertain of the best placement area, check with Project Manager, Foreman or Carpenter
  • Assist in safely setting up equipment with the Foreman, Carpenter or Sub-Contractor
  • Make sure all ladders are set or “blocked” at bottom to prevent slipping
  • Cover any and all landscaping and customer property that could possibly be damaged
  • Keep customer’s property neat and clean. All job debris is to be kept in a neat pile or in dumpster
  • Leftover materials must be organized neatly or removed from the jobsite at the end of each day

*NOTE: Never attempt to use heavy duty equipment or torches unless you have been or are being trained and closely supervised by your Project Manager, Foreman or Carpenter. If you notice fire or smoke at a jobsite immediately bring it to the Foreman or Carpenter’s attention.

4. End of Day

  • Remove debris from the jobsite
  • Assist with the take down of equipment and locking
  • Store equipment in a safe & secure place away high traffic areas, theft and rain, snow, etc
  • Clean pneumatic equipment/power tools during and at the end of each day

*NOTE: While working on ANY project, always follow up with the Foreman and/or Project Manager and confirm the house/jobsite is in a 100% watertight condition at the end of each day.

Skills & Qualifications

The Carpenter’s Apprentice MUST:

  • Be in good health and able to communicate and work well with others
  • Be willing to learn from and follow instructions of his supervisors
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Attend any training classes, seminars or conferences provided by the company
  • Be willing to learn and gain a general understanding of the major products installed by PCS, LLC (James Hardie/Beechworth/CertainTeed)

PCS Foreman

Work Performed & Responsibilities

1. Job Scheduling

  • Assists with pre-construction planning
  • Manages field personnel/sub-contractors and explains job details and specifications
  • Coordinates job with the Project Manager
  • Manages job through to successful & profitable completion

2. Job Safety

  • Assures crew adheres to safety standards
  • Assures each job is planned to minimize risk
  • Assures all safety equipment is at jobsite and in working order
  • Reports any incidents immediately to the Project Manager
  • It is the Foremen’s responsibility to file 1st Notice of Injury Report

3. Quality & Productivity

  • Knows manufacturers specifications
  • Knows job specifications
  • Assures the job progresses according to plan
  • Maintains good working relationship with owner
  • Improves quality by suggesting profitable change orders

4. Job Costing

  • Paperwork stating labor, material used and material returned are kept by the Foreman
  • Checking the sales consultants’ quantities & bringing the job within budget

5. Job Analysis

  • Determine the best starting point.
      • Fully understand job specifications and sales consultant’s paperwork before the job starts
      • Anticipate problems and correct them before they slow down the Carpenters and Apprentices or the job progress
      • Correct material shortages (2) days in advance to avoid job performance slow down. A 24-hour answering service is provided to assist in this effort (215) 768-2175
      • Make recommendations for specification, change orders or improvements and include all paper

    Train crew in safe working practices and PCS, LLC’s Safety Procedures

6. Attendance & Field Management

  • Report to work EVERY DAY at the agreed time
  • The Foreman should be first at the job site to get mentally prepared as to how to start the day in minimum start-up time
  • Manages time sheets for crew & assists project manager with payroll reporting and verification
  • Shop materials and equipment for the job should be signed out
  • Make sure the truck is not overloaded and equipment is properly stored on the truck for transit without damage Ladders should not overhang the rear of the truck more than three feet without red flag
  • Instruct field personnel where to unload and where to set up
  • Make sure equipment is set up safely
  • Make sure all materials and equipment are stored in a safe and secure area and the jobsite is cleaned up at the end of each day and take inventory to plan for the next day
  • Plan job to be performed in the least amount of time with the most customer satisfaction
  • Plan the job to complete at the end of a day without carrying over a couple of hours the next day
  • Make sure job signs are installed unless otherwise specified

7. At the Start of the Job

  • Introduce yourself as the Foreman to the customer
  • Give the customer your business card
  • Ask the customer if there are any leaks or other problems or concerns, so you know what you are supposed to accomplish
  • Assure them that if they have any questions, they should ask you, and that you will keep them informed DAILY as to the job progress
  • Tell the customer that you are responsible for their final approval of the completed work
  • Take photos of any damaged property that is existing before start of work

8. At the End of the Job

  • Check all aspects of project to ensure the job meets all contract specifications and details
  • Complete a final walk through with the homeowner and answer any questions they may have
  • Collect final payment after homeowner approval is received
  • Take photos of all work completed and of property where work was performed

Education, Knowledge and Skills

The Foreman MUST:

  • Attend CCN quarterly conferences when requested by management
  • Be a Certified CertainTeed Master Shingle Applicator
  • Know all major installation specs for James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding Products
  • Know proper building envelope weatherization
  • Be in good health, maintain a valid driver’s license, have mechanical ability experience in all exterior renovations
  • Know how to operate and maintain each piece of equipment on the job for continual operation without breakdowns
